I went out to start my 46b today and when i hit the starter, it backfired so loud that i couldnt hear for 5 minutes. Then i tried to start it after i recovered hearing and it wouldnt start. this is the first time it ever done this, it has a new carb. and has a hot spark, when i took the plugs out, they were driping in gas. i left them out for an hour and the cylinders and plugs were dry. so i tried to start it and wouldnt even hit! what is going on????? i have fuel and spark. please help,

1st. make sure your not getting too much gas,ck. crankcase oil for gas. Checking for spark can lead to a fire if your not carefull. What color are the insulators on the spark plugs. If they are black they need to be cleaned. ck. ign rotor, ck. for moisture in the cap, ck. point adjustment. It doesn't matter how old the componets are problems pop up.

Joe calm down now and think . Take the plugs out and turn to check compression then make sure your gas is getting thru, then take the plug and put in on the left side wire and turn the engine by hand til it fires and see if it is on the mark . also make sure the wires have not been crossed. Let us hear what happens now .

when i started it yesterday, it had a little trouble starting but when it did, it ran perfect, just wont start today, both side spark blue, and the wiring and timing hasnt been touched since restoration.

Sometimes a very small piece of rust gets down between the needle and seat. Take off the cover and look down into the needle. Even if you don't see anything blow compressed air just to make sure it's ok. Shut off the gas and drain the carburetor before you do this.

replace your plugs. they may look okay but they won't fire again. seems as if the needle and seat is leaking or the float may have a hole in it to allow it to sink. install some AC87 or Autolite plugs

Joe, I had a problem last summer where my B started running poorly then died. The plugs I put in were only weeks old with little use. I talked with the local JD guys and each had a different cure. I went ahead and spent the $5 bucks on new plugs and she fired right up! low idle and little work are tough on plugs. I always keep a spare set in the barn. Good luck TG
