how do you get to the inner bearings on a narrow 2 wheel front end? There held in by a retainer. How much would it cost to replace all four? any estimates? also, do i have to replace the inner felt seals, or will it be ok?

Hi Joe:
The only way to remove the inner bearings is to remove the retainer from the hub. This can be done without destroying them, however, that is somewhat difficult. Last summer, these retainers were still avaliable from JD. If they are not, I have a couple of new ones avaliable if you need them. If I recall correctly, The cost to replace all four bearings, retainers and four (4) felt washers was about $150 from JD. Hope all goes well..

An old mechanic showed me a trick several years ago. Remove the nut, washer and the outer bearing from the spindle. Screw the nut back on and slide the hub out til it drops down. Pull it outtil you feel the nut contact the inner bearing. Push back in just a little then give it a quick jerk back out. The inner bearing and the seal will be left on the spindle undamaged. This is a lot faster then trying to use a punch to get these out.
Hope this helps
Frank
