Hello,

Would anyone know what engine is in, what I was told a 1970 JD 310 backhoe and also where could I find the serial number on this machine?

How do I tell JD engines apart (219? or 276?)

thanks in advance,
paul

The 310 should be a 3 cylinder diesel. The 310a&310b had the four cylinder 219 engine. The engine serial no. plate is on the right side of the engine just below the head. The 219 engine has a verticle oil filter at the lower right front of the engine, the 276 has a horizontal oil filter half way up the engine on the right front attached to an oil cooler.

Brokenwrench,

Would you know if a expanded rebuild kit for a 276 engine work in my three cylinder engine?

thanks,
paul

Brokenwrench,

Thanks so much for the info.

Would you be able to tell me if there were different 3 cylinder engines and how to differentiate between the different models if there were any?

thanks again,
paul
