I just happened to have a 3020 12 volt gas gen. and a B gen. on the bench today. The 3020 gen. is one inch longer and the mounting holes are one inch farther apart. The tightner arm hole is about one quarter of the diameter of the gen. off, so you would have to do a little modifying to mount it. It should work after you get it mounted. I think your B was originally 6 Volt.

Yes a generator from a 3020 gas will fit if it is off of a 3020 gas it is 12 volt you can change to neg. ground or leave it pos. ground however you want to do it .

3020 generater will be 12v.--I don;t think you want to change a "B" over to 12v.--But, if you do.....get an alternater from a scrap yard..one with an internal regulator--so it will only ned one wire..... Change the light bulbs, and don't let the starter wind up too much....!!! Battery will need to be hooked up Neg. Ground... Maybe there is an old scrap yard neer you with OLD generaters...then get a 6v. one... like for an old Chevy...they were Positive Ground...

Ron you are going to have to explain how you can hook up a scrap yard alternator with just one wire. It has always taken at least 2. The only 1 wire alternators that I know of are special 1 wire alternators that are built specially for 1 wire insyallations and they are real expsnsive. Dont know of any car alternator that can be hooked up with one wire.

Fred, The one wire set-ups that I have seen are the Delco internal regulator alternators, the regulator is a special part that can be put in a standard alternator and it then will function with just the (one) power output cable to the battery. I have installed these and they seem to work. For the price that you pay for the regulator I found it was cheaper to just connect it up the way it was designed to work. Hope this is the answer to your question.

Thank you WTW I alredy know about the aftermarket self energizing internal regulators for the delco alternators and have tried one over a year ago. I didnt like it because the tractor wouldnt always spin the alternator fast enough to get it to charge by itself. All I wanted was for Ron to tell me how he makes a scrap yard alternator work with 1 wire. I have tried it and don't think it can be done.

Sounds expensive for an armature. Kenneth at Classic Generator sent a completely brand new generator, regulator & an undersized pulley to charge at idle, for little more than that.

Go buy it and find out. I doubt it will fit then by the time you spend all that money to get one out of a junkyard, it still wont work and it will have to be rebuilt. Then your back where you started and still wind up spending more money than it would cost to just have yours fixed.

For a 3020 to be generator equiped it would be a 68 or earlier 24V osilated from ground unit. A 69 & later would be a 12V negative ground alternator. Why are you getting hissy when I was trying to illistrate for you & other there are alternatives to your situation & how local shop is over charging you? You question is like" can I fix a flat tire with a "bandaid"?

68 and older 3020 / 4020 (GAS) tractors used 12 volt positive ground generators. Just the 68 and older (diesels) were 24 volt.
