I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me what the tiny streak of oil running down the left side of the engine block on a 3010 John Deere means. I noticed that there is a small hole that looks like a small drilled hole where oil is seeping. Any ideas? Thanks.

there should be 4 of the holes on a 3010.they are in between the sealing rings for the sleeves.they are weep holes to let out either water or oil in case the o-ring begins to fail.as long as the leak is not bad,i believe it should be left alone for now as it will require pulling the sleeves and replacing the o-rings.

Thanks for the followup. The leak isn't what I would call bad. It was just a streak of oil about as wide as a toothpick running out of the weep hole down the casting. There was no puddle of oil or anything just a little messy looking. I have had a 3020 and a 4020 in the past but never noticed this before. I just bought this 3010 and I am the third owner. I talked to the man that had it from 1967 till now and he seemed to baby it over all those years. It's only got 4500 hours on it and it is a 1961 model according to the serial number.
