By the knowledge you expound in your posts it sounds like you know your Deere plows. I found an illustration of a No. 77 plow in a 1953-54 John Deere pocketledger. Looks identical to mine. But now I`m curious as to the differences between a 44 and a 77. Can you enlighten me further? And are there any reference books on Deeres plows? After that I`ll only need some plowing lessons Thanks, JohnHenry

Sorry. I know the 51 one bottom and 52 two bottom pretty good. The 44, 55 ,66 and so on I don't know much about.

Oh I forgot to mention, the #77 3 bottom plow was reducible to a 2 bottom so it would be easier to confuse the two. Most folks who wanted a plow as heavy as a #77 wanted more bottoms than 2.

J.H. The number 77 plow was made in 3,4,and 5 bottom sizes, it had a 21" furrow tire and 18" land wheel tire when equipped with rubber tires, the #44 was a 2 bottom only and had 16" or later 15" tires if equipped with rubber. Also the 77 is much heavier and the axlkes are mounted above the frame for more clearance and deeper plowing. The er are more differences you can see if you have one of each to compare. But at a glance they are similar looking. Bob
