I need a sediment bowl, fuel valve to switch from
gas to distillate, and choke linkage to carb.
Does anybody know where I could find these items?

I also will need a radiator core for this tractor.
Would it be cheaper having mine fixed? Two of the cores were crushed and leak.

thanks for any help,

Keith E.

Keith,

I'm sure you have already checked this, but I think you can still get that sediment bowl and valve from John Deere. The part # for the valve is AD 680R, and for the sediment bowl is AA 499R. If they don't have them, you should contact Greg Stephen @ Stephen Equiptment. I beleive they are located in Franklintown, CO. I don't have a phone # handy, but I'm sure someone on this board could help you with that.

Good Luck

Taylor Equipments number is 1-800-368-3276. I bought a radiator with the gaskets for an R from them. It fit perfectly. I beleive they may be the same radiator. The gaskets had a D part number on them.

Keith, click on the link below & then click on "products" then on "Model D parts" then look for fuel valve. Kevin is good to deal with..
~On the radiator, it would be much cheaper to have yours repaired [if it is repairable] than buy a new core & gaskets. If the core tubes are just crushed, then a repair is quite possible. If the core tubes are rotten or corroded away you might have to buy a new core or good? used radiator.....

Clooney,

Thanks for the info and thanks to everyone else
that supplied info. It was sticker shock on the price, wow. I have a couple of questions, and from lurking
around here for several months, I see that you are
very helpful on a lot of subjects. This D has a lever on the left fender not hooked up to anything
do you know what it is for?

I also have a rod that goes through the trans
casting starting by the pto lever and ending near
the carb on the left side of tractor. If this
isn't for the choke what is it?

Thanks for any wisdom you can share,

Keith E.

Keith, if the lever is about mid center on the L/H fender & mounted to an "L" shaped bracket attached to the big brace that holds the fender on, it is the radiator shutter control lever. ~You will probably also find a small loop attached to the L/H side of the hood that the rod ran through.
~A rod ran from that lever, through the loop & attached to the L/H side of the radiator shutter in front of the radiator.
~The other rod is for the water valve-(used to control detonation under load by allowing water from the cooling system to enter the carb when activated)
~If you need pictures of the shutter control, & water valve to rod let me know & I will look in my archives. I know I have pictures of a late unstyled "D" shutter control & water valve in there somewhere..... ...

Keith, Can't help on the lever because mine doesn't have it, but the rod from pto area comes out straight forward where the block meets the main housing and is (was) to activate the water injection. You will notice probably a pipe plug in the area of the left-hand spark plug where the valve went. Most of the rods that you see are just bent down where they come out of the casting and the water injection valves have been removed. You can find a picture in "Ultimate John Deere" by Ralph W. Sanders that show a pretty good detail of this rod and valve (p.113). I haven't seen a good pic anywhere else.Water inj. was used to help control detonation when running on distillate, but since the advent of year-round anti-freeze, it was a dangerous thing to leave hooked up. Hope this helps, Ron

I don't know where you can find a fuel valve, but the choke is hand operated, and there is no linkage to it. So, I can solve that problem. If you dont need to have original style fuel valve, I would put a new sediment bulb assembly on it. Those old switchover valves are not only scarce as hens teeth, but they are hard to get to work and not leak.
