Would be interesting to hear how far(miles or yards), or for how long(minutes, hours) you can drive your D on one gallon of gas. This would be on light parade duty. Mine seem to be constantly running dry...

Johan, on the unstyled "D'S" I have I get about 30-45 minutes per gallon just playing & when I put them to work the usage goes up considerably depending on the load & RPM. I can't tell you the fuel usage at full load but it better be full if you are going very far from a fuel supply & pulling a load. I do tend to run them a little rich as I don't like to use the water valve with glycol antifreeze in the radiator.

I have dyno'd my 1948 D and it took 5 gallons of fuel for 50 minutes of use.

I've got a 38 D which my Granddaughter claims as hers. Every time she is here, she has to drive it around the pasture for a couple of hours. At 1/4 throttle, a couple gallons of gas lasts her all morning. The last time I had it in the parade, we roaded it into town 8 miles, sat around idling for about an hour, went in the parade behind a bunch of kids walking, and drove home. I had filled it before we left, and it still had half a tank when we got home. The D was a very fuel efficient tractor for it's time. It would normally work a ten hour day on a tank of fuel. If you are using a gallon an hour at full throttle, that is pretty good.

A model D has a 500 cubic inch engine .plus they have a low 3.9 to one compression ratio. Both of these facts relate to poor fuel economy I dont think a D will run more than about 15 minutes on a gallon. at least mine dont.but I still love them best.
