Yes but NO, The problem is the different shape of the 4020 pulley / balancer will interfere with the 30 series engine timing cover. The back up the pulley / balancer will rub on the timing cover before the pulley is all the way on. I know this because I tried to do this in putting the later 30 series engine in a 4020. Gave up on the 4020 pulley idea and went with another. If it would of fit without interference it would not hurt the 4430 engine as both are 404 engines and common crankshafts. The crankshafts will interchange from the later 404 / 4020 engines clear up to the early 466 / 4440 engine (same stroke). Been there done that. Good Luck, Dave W.

Did the other pulley work? If so what kind was it?

Sir, I don't know just for sure what your objective is? The reason I got involved with this pulley ordeal was I was putting a 30 series diesel engine in a 4020 Powershift GAS. My objective in doing so was not to have to move the radiator, lengthen frames or hoods and not to alter any sheet metal as far as hoods and panels. I did get it done including using the original hydraulic pump coupling as well. I did not move the radiator and I am using the original fan blade. If this is what you are working with I can tell you how I did mine. It did require some machine work to the water pump, front pulley, timing cover and the hydraulic pump mounting bracket. The first problem is the water pump is to far forward which will put the fan blade to close to the radiator core and fan shroud. I move the water pump back closer to the engine by milling the pump cover on both sides gaining allot of room there. I also milled the pump impeller some to maintain some running clearance there. I crowed the water pump so close to the cylinder head that I also counter sunk the heads of the (6) 3/8" cap screws in the plate located directly behind the water pump covering the end of the cylinder head. Once the water pump was moved back I positioned the original combine water pump pulley / hub on the pump shaft to position the pulley as close to the water pump as I could get it. A spacer was made to move the original fan blade ahead of pulley so fan belt would not interfere with back of fan blade. I got a new 4430 front pulley (three groove). It was chucked in a lathe and had the front and rear sheave removed from it leaving the center sheave for the belt. I also cut / shortened the back off the center mounting hub of pulley to allow the pulley to be pulled onto the crankshaft further to allow belt alignment with the water pump pulley. To get the pulley back far enough to align the belt I had to mill the front timing cover above crank shaft seal about a 1/4". There is plenty of material in cover above the seal and it will not affect it or seal location. The last machining step to the pulley was to shorten the pump drive stud mounting surfaces just a little to position the drive stud in there original location to maintain original coupling location. This kept the coupling from interfering with the radiator bottom tank and shroud. The last alteration was to the hydraulic pump mounting bracket. The cast in cross brace was shaved where it come close to the modified engine pulley. This area would clear but was not enough clearance for fan belt service. I know this sounds like allot of work and it was some. Unaltered sheet metal, stock fan blade, pulley, belt and radiator hoses fit it and when done it looks like it belongs there and not cobbled in it. I did not get real specific on measurements here as I don't remember exactly what they were but it is nothing that I couldn't figure out with a tape measure and a strait edge. Good Luck Dave W.
