I have access to a John Deere #44 two bottom plow but the mold boards and all related parts are worn extremely bad. How do I tell if it is a 2-14, 2-16, etc? Is there a John Deere 3 bottom plow that the lower parts will interchange with this? I may buy and try to trade for a 3-point hitch 2 bottom plow. Live in upstate, NY. Thanks for any help.
Jeffrey

Jeffery, stand back behind the trailing wheel and look at the large iron bars that hold the moldboard. If they curve in slightly, then the plow is set to be 2-14. If they curve out slightly, then it is set at 2-16. You switch the mounting for the plow bottoms around to change from one size to the other on a #44 plow.

As for parts interchangability with another plow, the bottoms from a 3 bottom #55 will work.

Jeff, If you have a 2-14, that means that it's a two bottom, and 2 14" bottoms will cut 28", 2 16" bottoms 32", etc. I have a #44 plow and an operators manual for it. If there is someway I can help, email me.

The easiest way to tell is to measure from one plow beam to the same side of the other plow beam at a right angle to the beam.
