my 47 A has been in the woods for several years. didnt lock up. put in a set of hot plugs, new gas pulled it, started, but pops and hauls the black smoke like a semi with a heavy load. the carb is off a B, should it run like it is? can i rebuilt it and get it to work? i dont have the money to buy a new carb for it.

Joe, I've run an A carbs on a B's without any problem so I would think a B carb on an A should at least function enough to be able to use it. It will probably be low on power though. ~Make sure the choke is opening all the way & doesn't have a bent choke plate, if ok there try running without the air cleaner hooked up, [mud daubers nests, water & dirt get in & plug those air cleaners when they sit open.
~Make sure the float actually floats [make sure it doesn't have fuel in it, if cork just replace it].
~Pull the main jet orifice [the long tube with holes in the side that is in the well above the bottom big bowl nut] & make sure the holes in the side are open, as that controls the amount of air mixed with the load fuel.
~Make sure the mag/dist is timed correctly.

What A carb will fit a 38 unstyled B and preform better than the DLTX 10.
Thanks Steve
