Wondering if someone can help. I just bought a '64 2010 and I'm using it to mow with a 6 ft bushog. It continues to get hot after mowing for about an hour. I still runs fine, but the temp gauge goes all the way to the red.

I have been turning it off to let it cool down, but would like an alternative. The coolent is circulation, the radiator looks ok and it has enough oil. What could I be overlooking or is this normal for this small of a tractor?

thanks

I had the same problem on my 2440, I sprayed some household grease cutter on the fins from both sides and then blew them out with the airhose. Then I followed that with a water spray from the hose. You would not belive the amout of dirt and junk that came out. I bought the tractor used last fall it is a 1980 model and I doubt if it was ever cleaned before. Hope this helps.

If draining and flushing the coolant doesn't solve your problem you might want to check the radiator. I have a '66 2020 and had overheating problems. After removing the radiator and cleaning out all the dust between the fins and straightening any bent fins it ran fine. Good luck

My '66 1020 will run hot if I don't remember to completely flush the cooling system every year or two.

Open the petcocks on the block and the radiator and flush out all the crud that builts up in there. Usually fixes it. Remember not to run cold water into a hot block.

If there's still a problem, remove or replace the thermostat (I'm assuming a 2010 has a thermostat instead of shutters).

Good luck,

Steve
