I need to install a new cam/gear assembly on my 445 and do not have a service manual. What do I need to know?

Installation Technique?
Alignment?
Assembly Lube?
Break-in Procedure?
Vave adjustment?

Appreciate any help,
John

John,

I've got a 425 -- which as you probably know is a totaly different engine, yours Diesel, mine gas --but I have built more engines that I can remember right now.

The most important thing you list above is getting the timing right. If you've pulled the timing cover and can't find any marks on the cam gear or crank gear; I'd surely get a manual.

The rest of the stuff should be straightforward compared to any other engine.

I noticed you hadn't got any responses. This may not be the best board for a 455. Have you tried the garden tractor board here? Could be somebody there has done surgery on theirs.

Good luck with getting it going again. Our 425 is the best mower, but the smallest tractor we have.

Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I found the Garden Tractor Board and posted there. Thanks for the suggestion. I did note the cam and crank gear marks, and I asume the the cam mark points down and the crank mark points up? IIRC, this is the way that I installed a SBC Cam a few years ago.

Thanks,
John
