A friend of mine has a 1957 John Deere 420S, 5-cylinder. Many people claim John Deere didn't make a 420S, but that's what's on the tractor. It's in excellent condition and he still uses is almost daily. He'd just like some information on it. Does anyone know anything about this model JD? Any information would be extremely helpful.

Thanks much,
Roger George

I have a JD 420S and it is a great little tractor. I use mine to cultivate vegetable crops and it does a great job with a 2-14 plow or a 5' bushog. Mine is the 2nd to the last one made. Long live the johnnie poppers and tell you friend to have fun with it.

Hi Roger, He has a 420S 2 cylinder to start with. I have a 56 which is a series one. I would guess his is a series 2 with a yellow strip on the side. It is rated to pull a 3 bottom as does so very well. Here is a web site i found that tells more about them. Link
