Hello. I have a 1950 Model "A" with a Delco distribtor on it now. The serial number is 661958. I was looking at my parts book and it shows that this came with a magneto and then it was changed a short time later to the Delco Distribtor. Can anyone tell me where I can get a Mag for this tractor. Anyone have any advice. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I have the mag you need. It came off of a running 1950 A. Email me if you`re interested.

Steve: I had the same thing come up on my 1946 A project. I ask "Mr. Thinker" when I was the the Gathering of the Green and he said all were shipped with a mag and some were later converted to distirbto so I decided to scrap it a go to a mag. I purchased a re-built mag from Magneeders. It came looking and working very good. Their number is 417-358-7863. Good luck...

Another good source for a new magneto is www.robertscarbrepair.com.

Those tractors were correct with either the mag or distributor. The Delco-Remy distributor is dependable and, unless you really want a mag, could be left intact w/o any harm. For fast-cranking tractors (i.e. 12V), the distributor will start them better as sometimes the cranking speed is too fast to trip the mag's impulse. Check Green Magazine or Two-Cylinder for suppliers that sell used / reconditioned ones & make sure you get a Wico "X" with the short drive lug & proper advance angle for your tractor.
