My 1945 B sat in the shed for years. I could only get it started with ether. After doing a cylinder leakage test, I found out the minimum was a valve job (found out the valve seats were pitted I think from sitting).

The right cylinder wall is pitted at the top 1.5 inches. I think that should be ok. The top ring on both pistons are missing, which is very strange.

The machine was rebuilt and seems to have very little wear.

I think the best thing to do is rering the pistons and slap her back together and see how it runs????? ?????

It sounds to me that you are not getting enough fuel or enough spark to start it . These old motors dont have to be right up on everything to start easy but they do need to have plenty of fuel and spark . My 2 cents worth

You may not be missing the top ring. My 44 B pistons have what I think is called a Carbon collector on the top of the piston. It looks like a ring slot, but is suppose to collect carbon and help the piston is some way. Perhaps cool the piston.

I wondered about that on my H. It has the empty groove at the top of the piston too.
