I had my 1946 B tractor apart putting in a new clutch and replaced all the oil seals in the hydrolics and in the axel. it sat for about a month(longest its sat since i owned it)started it after turning over twice, filled my garage up with thick white smoke! it smelled like something sweet. Very good smell, but gave me a frown. Im hopping it just has a leaky head gasket, NOT A CRACKED HEAD! how can i test this? i just spent all my money on all these recent gasket and oil seal replacements. so it would be sometime before i can get to that. But anyway after it ran for about 2 minutes the white smoke cleared up. it also didnt run too good during that time. What shoul i do?

Not anything serious, you have a head gasket leak-
ing. The antifreeze is seeping into the cylinders
and you are burning it with the gas, maybe just
a re torque of the head will fix, might try it.

I am shure you are positive about the smell, But I have had problems with MUD Daubers building nests in the air intake.... When they break loose, they fall into the elbow, and block the intake pipe.....Makes it Smoke terrible..... FWIW..... !!

I guess you had better explain to an old farm boy like me how the pushrod tubes can let antifreeze into the combustion chambers. Be specific and tell exactly where the pushrod tubes would be leaking to allow fluid to enter the combustion chambers or intake.
He said there was no antifreeze in the oil so we know it isn't going there.

Remove the valve cover and snug down the cylinder head nuts, won't hurt anything unless you snap one off from tightening too much. I've got same problem w/ a 40 A , no time now to pull head found a loose nut, slowed down seepage until it gets a turn in the shop. I'm sure mine will need head gasket.
