I have a 1975 John Deere 400 Series Tractor, with a 60" Cut and a 19.9 Kohler Engine. The problem is, once you start mowing with the tractor, after about 20 minutes the engine just cuts off and, if you don't turn off the ignition, backfires. The engine won't do anything for at least an hour, and then it will start normally, with no excess smoke or weird noises, and then again cut off after about 20 minutes worth of mowing. I have replaced the Coil, Condenser, Plugs, and the Points, but nothing has worked. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Anthony, you have covered the basics with the ignition parts.
~While it could be almost anything, it sort of sounds like a fuel flow problem, like a plugged fuel tank cap vent, fuel filter, or vapor lock.
~Make sure the tank cap vent is open & if that is ok make sure the fuel lines aren't touching or running real close any tractor parts that get hot. ~If it has a fuel pump [I'm not sure on that model] that would be a suspect also. ~The fuel filter must be free flowing & not plugged or plugging & not close to any hot parts...

It sounds like you have sticking valves in the engine. It may need to have the valves ground and the valve guides checked.
