I am about to take my G's block in to be bored out to .125 over and would like to know what else to have done to it. Solvent bath, have the block decked? Any help would be appreciated. By the way the tractor is gonna be a puller.

Make sure you get the ring gaps right when going back together.I payed 75.00 per hole to get one bored.I also brought him the pistons so he could fit them.If you go with aluminum pistons make sure your machinist allows you adequate tolerances to allow the pistons to expand.Good choice and good luck.Jack(TN).

Have it magnafluxed & pressure-checked, deck the face & trim the water jacket boss if it is pitted badly.

What should it cost to have all of that done including having it bored out?

Tough call - Many shops around here (CNY) charge at least $75 to clean / magnaflux and pressure check. (It's worth spending the extra for pressure testing) The decking will usually be at least $50, provided that they don't have to take too much off. Boring is dependent upon how far out you're going, but many "G" blocks that I've done have been between $75-$100/ hole. Realize that the boring bar at many shops is not big enough to handle the "G" block. Make certain that when you do bore it, you have your shop fit the pistons as well. I personally wouldn't take a chance on boring to a specific size & then having too much (little) side clearance.

If you want to do it right, take it to a professional shop where they will stand behind their work. My father took a 60 block to a guy who 'used to work for a good shop'& he proceeded to over-bore the block when fitting the pistons and cracked the face because his milling machine wasn't 'perfect'. It's better to spend a little more to get a good job....
