There is an A made some time between 47 and 50 near the rubble that was once my grandmother's barn. It is in similar condition to the 50, and if the 50 can be fixed the A is next in line. There are two similar-looking levers near the top of the steering column support. My father thought they were for the throttle and controlling when it sparked. Is one actually for radiator shutters?

Top lever is for throttle, bottom lever is for shutter.

Joe: Dad's 1949 (sn 626081) was built as a gas
model and came from the factory with the shutters.
It's been overhauled and set to run on unleaded
gas and really doesn't need the use of the shutter
to get the temperature up, but we keep it on, in
working order. I do use the shutters in the winter
when I have the heat houser on plowing snow. (it
does help a little to keep you warmer). pb

On mine, Grandpa had aluminum pistons put in it and it always ran hot. He had a water pump put in it and the shutters taken off in an attempt to keep it cool. Less air restriction without them there even when the shutters were wide open. I imagine it happened to others of that time as well.
