What should the compression be on a 36 A. I checked mine with both plugs out and the petcocks closed and got 35psi on the left side and 40 on the right with a cold engine. I expect 150 psi on my 58 Oldsmobile so on the one hand 40 seems low but then again I certainly wouldn't want to hand start the A if it had much more than the 40 figure.
Thanks
Bud

Bud, I would expect it to be more like 50 but a lot depends on how fast you crank it.
~How many puffs does it take to get 35 & 40 PSI? See what the compression is after only one puff as that is what you are really working with. ~Make sure the choke & THROTTLE are wide open during the test.
~Just for comparison; do a compression test on the engine when hot also.

Clooney,I'm getting my figures after one major compression. ie there are two minor compressions with spark and then the big one ( I'm very technical as you can see from my description ). My wife is holding the compression gage with the rubber seal against the plug hole and its certainly possible that she's getting some leakage. As far as checking it hot that would require starting the tractor and thats the root of the problem.
