another problem with the 1010-2010 series is the "sleeve-and-deck" cylinder arrangements where all the wet sleeves were joined at the top in a "deck". The bottoms of the sleeves sometimes didn't seal well and leaked antifreeze. This was a weak point in the engine and resulted in some premature failures, and also more difficult and expensive to get overhaul kits for these days. The gas were somewhat better for holding up since they didn't vibrate so much as the diesel. If the engine is in good shape, fine, if not then expect an overhaul to be more than perhaps you bargained on. Hope this helps, just my 2 cents worth, based on what i have a heard a lot of people say and on this board and what i have read. my own experience has been with the 2-cyl.

if you have been following posts on tractors you should see a lot of 1010 comments. This was JD first attempt at 4 cylinder tractors. Most of them have good hydraulics but the engine is underpowered for the tractor and has to operate at a high rpm to produce power. There was early and late models as I believe they made them up to 1965. I had one and personally, one was enough.
