I bought this new radiator core 10 months ago from Taylor equiptment. I mounted it a month ago and all went fine except the bottom plate was soldered on backwards so I had to drill some new holes..... No big deal. The tractor is together now with cork gasket and RTV all around to seal the top and bottom tank to the new core. Filled it up with plain water and there is a leak on the left side, One inch down and 2 inches from left support . It seems to be about one row in and not on the front row. Should I try a sealant of some kind or tear it apart and solder off the tubes that I think are failing.Could I RTV the tubes from top and bottom ? I am afraid of causing damage if I have to tear it apart... Has any one had good luck with sealing a non preasureized system? thanks Marty Z

My first step would be to get in touch with the outfit that you bought it from, as there is no reason to spend more money to repair something that was never right to begin with. They ought to work with you on it, whether it be sending you another core or refunding some or all of your money. I also wouldn't use RTV sealant on those gaskets. I used the regular gaskets and spray high-tack when I assembled the radiator on my G, just to locate and secure the gasket some during assembly, and I had zero leaks, even with some badly pitted tank flanges that I fixed with epoxy. Too much RTV will act as a lubricant and usually cause more problems than it will cure, if the gasket pushes out during assembly. RTV silicone does have it's uses, but the only place I've ever used it on an old tractor is a very light coating between shims if they seal in oil. Look at it this way. They didn't use RTV when they built your tractor, so it shouldn't be necessary now. Too often guys try to use RTV as a band-aid, rather than fixing the problem the correct way.

OK you are right. I now have the radiator off and will have it fixed right .. I don't know why I try to find short cuts when I have so much time and money wrapped up in the Beast already. Thanks. My wife even looked at me and said "Why don't you just do it right !!!! " Thanks Marty Z
