I just traded for a 1944 Model A, John Deere. I was wondering what fluids this tractor uses and how to check each. It seems that it may have three different places to check the fluids. One is the motor, another is the rearend, and the last is up high on the rear back of the tractor for the lift. I found where and how to check the motor oil (bolt in lower side of crankcase and you add oil through the top by shifter). I also found how to check the oil for the lift (2 plugs). I only saw one plug on the rearend(to the right side and above the pto shaft). Do I fill this till it is level with the plug thread holes or have I not found the check plug for the rearend? I also am not sure of what fluids to use where. What oil do I use for the air cleaner? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, James

J. Lashbrook,
You check the engine oil below and a little ways in front of the belt pulley. You add oil through the crankcase breather. The one you're seeing by the PTO shaft is both the filler and checker plug. Use whatever you use in the engine in the air cleaner. For the transmission I use a good heavy gear oil.
