I restored the motor on my 1938 B John Deere, including taking the manifold off of the head and had both tuned up, and put on a new gasket. But it does not seem to draw the fuel in. I had the head redone so the valves are o.k. It will not start by cranking. I can start it by pulling it, but when it is running the governor surges and it won't idle, and it does not respond to the idle adjustment. I also had the carburator restored. Any suggestion what might be wrong? Thanks

Warren, you didn't furnish a whole lot of information on the problem so the answer will have to be general.
~It sounds like you either still have a carb problem, have tight valves, or have an intake leak.
~Make sure the valves are adjusted correctly.
~You might want to remove the carb & make a plug for the intake manifold & muffler & blow some compressed air into the intake manifold to see if you have leak at the manifold to head or porous intake manifold. If not careful the manifold gasket could have been installed wrong leaving a gap on the sides.
~If no problem with intake leaks or tight valves you probably still have a blockage in the carb [those DLTX carbs are hard to clean out correctly & just because it was professionally done doesn't mean it was done correctly]....
