I have a 1964 gas 2010 utility. The 3 point works, but is very jerky not smooth. Also it used to pick up round bales without any problems, but lately, it doesn't pick them up to well. Mostly just squeals when it won't pick one up. I mentioned changing the hyd. filter, but was told it was the same as the trans. filter. Is this true? I was under the impression it had 2 different filters. So I turn to the experts here. Any advice will be appreciated....Thanks Steve

Thanks guys, I'll get a new filter. And change the fluid while I'm there. How many gallons of fluid do these tractors hold?

I am with Tim, Mine is also a gas wide front,P.S. mint condition including paint and real nice 36 loader will pick up anthing front or back. Buy a new filter. It does all hyd\trans filtering, located in center of tractor(down low) behind a 3 bolt round cover, use good fluid. you will be amazed how well it will work.

Amen. Just went down this same road with mine. Wasted much time and oil draining and cleaning the old filter. Put a new filter in and everything works great. Just finished putting it all back together with new paint and decals and fixed all the oil leaks while it was down.

A new filter from John Deere is about 50 bucks tax and all. The transmission holds 8 gallons of oil. And do use a good brand of oil. Some of the cheap stuff absorbs moisture and will gum up that new filter. I've learned a lot the hard way, but that way you don't forget.

Change the Filter! The transmission and hydraulic oil are the same stuff. I went down this road and you will save a lot of time, oil, and effort if you buy a new filter (it really is a screen), it is 40 bucks well spent. I have an early serial number 1961 2010 (gas) and it runs great. Sure they have some drawbacks (brakes are my number one complant and operating that shuttle shift regularly will give you a very well devoloped right arm) but it is a very handy tractor.
