I am restoring a "35 B. My question is, what parts of the magneto do I mask off before painting? There are two sections, the black cap where the plug wires connect to and the mag housing. Also, do the rubber hoses between the radiator and the in/out tubes get painted or should they be left black?

I would paint the mag cap semi-gloss black and leave the rest of the mag natural except clean and leave give the hoses a rubber treatment and leave black. I see some connector rad hose comes in blue now, that I would paint black.

if you do not have a problem with taking the mag off, i'd take it off and cover the mounting place with duct tape then trim around the edges with a x-acto knife or box knife, paint and let dry, pull the duct tape off and remount and retime the mag. if you paint the distributor cap, make sure the paint is non conductive. i cote my caps with liquid shoe polish, that way there is no aerosol paint to drift in and get on the metal contacts.
