What is the best way to mount a Westendorf Quick-tach fully hydraulic loader to my 4010 gas that has only one factory hydraulic remote outlet? Some say just use a 2 spool valve and just tie the factory lever back. Some have mentioned a coupler that plumbs in directly at the hydraulic "filter cover"? that would allow me to use a 2 spool and continue to have a free remote on the back. Others say get another factory remote installed, but how much $ are we talking? Thanks for any ideas.

Cost to put in another set of factory valves is around 1000USD if you buy reconditioned control value, couplers, lever, etc.

I got lucky and picked up the extra set on auction for 360USD. But did have to spend another 100USD to repair/rebuild the coupler.

Note that you should be able to plumb in valves from another 3010, 3020, 4010, or 4020 if I recall correctly.

The extra set I put on was from a 3020 going onto a 3010. I did have to drill and tap two holes to hold the coupler, as there is a difference in the hole configuration between the 10 and 20 series. I did have to do some stuff under the steering console as well, but could have avoided if I would have ditched the pipes and used hydraulic hoses instead (to connect from control valve to coupler).

Just answered an E-Mail the other day from a guy wanting to know how to tell a closed center Gresen SP series Valve from a open center. Looked it up so I post it here. On the "out" side of the valve is a big plug next to the "out" port. If the plug is a long solid plug with a seal on the end it is set for a closed center system. (3010 and above) If the plug is long plug with a 3/4" treaded hole in the center it is set up for colsed center with power behond. (You can add extra valves off the 3/4" port.)(3010 and above) If the plug is a short one that is the same lenght as thread in the casting it is set of open center.(Two bangers). These plugs are available as parts and can be had from any good hdy supply store. (We have a good one in La Crosse that not only sells stuff, but also repaires and can also make stuff in the machine shop.) On the power behond, JD had a simulur plug that would tap into the JD valve under the dash. But it was on I think the later 3010/4010's and the 3020/4020's on up. Then you tapped into that to plumb to the valve.

Plumb your tractor as G-MAN has suggested as this is the best and easiest way to do it. The only other important thing that I wanted to add is: Make sure the independent spool valve you acquire / use for the loader is a (CLOSED CENTER) system type valve only and not an open center type as you will create a neutral position leak if it is not. This is very important if you want your system to work correctly and not starve for oil and run hot. Good Luck, DW

There is a fitting located on the RH side of the tractor, near the brake valve, that ties directly into main pump pressure. The special filter covers with a fitting in them are for return oil, such as that coming from your loader valve, not pressure oil going TO the loader. That is probably where you'll want your return oil to go. JD hydraulic systems put the return oil from cylinders back into the suction side of the main pump, to keep the system from running out of oil. I would use the two-spool valve that was suggested, but plumb it into that high-pressure fitting, and you'll still be able to retain use of your single remote. The fitting to tie in there will cost less than the hoses to run back and plug into your remote couplers, and it will be a much cleaner installation. Somebody in your area likely has a tractor set up like this, and you can check it out to see what you need. Your dealer should also be able to set you up.
