A #1 Powerblock will fit in a 36 unstyled "A" but, there is some things that you must realize. The rear block flange is the same bolt pattern as the early "A" block (no problem there). The original 36 "A" head will NOT fit the Powerblock, you will have to use a later "A" head, (1940 - 1952 will work). The later head used between 1947 and 1952 would be the better of the two as it is a higher compression head. Best head if you want the most out of it is a late Heisler head, (bigger valves and higher compression than late stock "A" head. Different head will also mean different manifold as original 36 manifold will not fit the later head and you do not want to use the hot manifold anyway, get a gas manifold. The last thing to do to make it work is you will have to use the later "A" or "60" connecting rod if you are using the original Powerblock pistons as the wrist pin in a power block piston is larger than the original 36 "A" rod eye / piston. Hope this will save you some time and worry, it won't save you any money! LOL!! Good Luck, Dave W.

To save some expense you can bore your 36 rod bushing to late style pin. Just my 2 cents. Earl
