I have a 4430 in the shop for syncronizer repair. I replaced them and the shift claws and shift cams. Coustomer picked up tractor and brought it back after a little while because it grinds when I shift from 2 to 3rd gear using clutch. I took tractor back apart expecting to find a defect or something wrong, but found nothing wrong or out of place. I have been working on deeres for 9 years and never encountered something like this. So then I thought it could be a clutch problem so I put a gauge on the clutch test plug on the side valve body and the pressure drops instantly when clutch is depressed.Dont know what to do next. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks for any help. Joe

While you are checking pressures, also check your lube pressure. Something could have happened there to cause the gears on the top shaft to drag. Also he could have done something to the clutch and warped the disks. I have had a bent transmission pump drive shaft contact the inside of the top shaft causing a drag effect. You didn't say any thing about the gears. Are they new or are they the old ones. I've had new ones drag untill they are broke in. I now use white lithium grease and coat the shaft and id of the gears during assembly. Good Luck!
