If it's a cast iron wheel ,it should have 3 or 4 bolts that bolt the two halves together,And I don't think there is a easy way to get those dust covers out ,I tore mine up too.

Thanks mike knowing someone else has messed those dust covers up makes me feel a lot better. I assumed this but are the dust caps still available from John Deere??? If there is no good way to split the rim, how do you get the tire off of the rim with out taking a saws all to it???

I don't have any experience with the single front wheel assemblies, so I won't be much help with your current problems. However, I would suggest getting the proper manuals for your tractor, including the parts, operator's and service manuals. You can get them through your local dealer, they're not terribly expensive, and they are the most valuable tools you can own when it comes to operating, servicing and repairing your tractor. Some parts are getting hard to find, and it sure isn't much fun to ruin something by using improper procedures when attempting to repair a problem. My two cents.

G-Man thanks for your response. However, we already own manuals and they do not go into detail on how to perform this task. This tractor is just 1 of 8 in my brother and my collection and we always try to follow our manuals.

Also on that BN we were trying to get the wheel bearings out and practically had to detroy the dust caps. Is there an easier way to do this and with less damage? We noticed that there is a lip on the inside, the dust caps have 4 little tits- 2 opposite each other- that lock into this lip/groove.help
