ryan,

I'm with G-MAN and phil. My stock '47 B has never run out of power before running out of traction. Start off with what G-MAN suggests, then explore more exotic options.

Good luck,

Terry H

Ryan, sometimes the simplest things are the best. Get a hold of a service manual and start with a good tuneup. Check compression and make sure it is up to specs. Adjust points, timing, and valve lash. Install new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Properly adjust the carb and governor. Make sure your air cleaner is clean and not plugged up with old grease. Make sure the strainer in the sediment bowl is good and clean, as well as the strainer at the carburetor. Make sure your fuel tank and lines are in good shape and not filled up with garbage. If you get all of things squared away first, it will provide a good baseline for judging the effectiveness of future modifications. I agree with Phil, your "B" should be able to spin the tires in low gear bone stock.

Does your 1947 have a 'creeper' first gear? If not, it may be a 1946 or older. But if you do have the 1.5 mph first gear, you won't run out of power, a late-model B with a stock engine will always spin-out, even at half throttle.
