Just curious how a Model 40's cooling system works, since it doesnt have a water pump but requires antifreeze. How does the water cool the engine if it doesnt circulate. Thanks for the info, I'm new to restoring this good'ole machine.
Matt

Matt, the water does circulate. Tractors with Thermo-Siphon cooling circulate the coolant by convection flow...Convection flow works by the water in the engine block absorbing the combustion heat & rising in temperature, as coolant temperature elevates it flows upward & enters the radiator through the upper radiator hose, as the coolant is cooled by the radiator/fan it falls & re-enters the engine at the lower radiator hose to complete the cycle over again. [the principle is: hot water rises & cool water descends, thereby creating a flow]
