The 5010 was the first John Deere row-crop tractor to exceed 100 hp - and did so on both the drawbar and PTO - a first for the entire industry. The 8010/8020 is a four wheel drive tractor and was powered by a Detroit 2 cycle diesel. The 5010 used the 531 cubic inch Deere engine. So if you mean the first Deere tractor with 100 hp, the 8010 gets it. If you consider it the first "completely" Deere tractor - it's the 5010. The 8010/8020 tractors (all 8010s were recalled and rebuilt as 8020s except one) are rare enough that a lot of people haven't even heard of them or seen a picture of one.

I screwed up - the 5010 wasn't actually a row-crop tractor, as it didn't have an adjustable tread front axle. I should have said two wheel drive rather than row-crop.

Now I am confused. Was the 5010 or the 8010 the first John Deere over 100 HP.

It was the 8010. It came out two years before the 5010.
