Hello, I have a question and i figure this is the place to go. Recently I saw a garden tractor (John Deere) on the side of the road for sale. I stopped, looked it over, and the machine was newly painted, had a new 42" mowing deck, and looked to be in great condition. When I called the # on the for sale sign, the guy who was selling it told me that it was a 1975 had a 20 hp koler motor, hydraulic lines in the front, and a huge meatball in rear, heavy duty. The engine was rebuilt and it looked to me that the tractor was very well rebuilt. He was asking 3000 for the tractor. Does this sound reasonable? And does anyone know how well those older lawn mowers cut grass?

HAving second thoughs about machine,

Anyway Thanks for your time.

KG,

I'll make it three, which is overwhelming evidence here.

It's way too much. I wouldn't expect that my '95 425 with 20 hp and all its whiz bang gizmos is worth much more than 3,000.

Unless there’s something that hasn’t been brought out here that’s way too high. It’s too old to cost that amount for it’s “New” utility and too new to be very collectable. Here in Michigan where everything painted green might as well be gold plated we buy machines such as you’ve described for $600- $750. I recently bought a four year old LX188 with a Power Flo Bagger for $1900. Keep looking.

KG,

Sounds a bit pricey to me. Around here you can find a ford 8N with a 5 foot finish mower for that kind of money. I passed one up before I bought my 46 B. Most lawn tractors of that age fo for about 600 to 1500 depending on the shape.

Hope this helps

Sam
