I bought 2 new clutch disk facings from yesterdays tractors link under tractor parts and replaced the 2 floating disks in the clutch. I tightened the clutch till it snaps in hard and it slipped when I tried to pull at the tractor show. I tried to tighten it one more nut facing and it will not snap in, so I had to turn it back to where it was. It drives OK but it slips at the end of the pull still. The disks I replaced are only 1/8 th in thick. Are the disks too thin or should I look at something else to be the problem. The manual says to put a dab of greese on the disk when I install them . I did not. Should I put greese on them? It just seemed like a bad idea. Thanks

Marty, without seeing the clutch or hardware it is almost impossible tell what you have.
~What condition is the double lined floating disk in?
~The usual cause of a problem like yours is wear on the toggles, dogs, or toggle holes in the sleeve, or worn sleeve drive pin, or worn hole in the sleeve that the drive pin fits in.
~If you have wear on the parts mentioned above the toggles go over center but go too far & lose clamping pressure on the clutch plates & if you try to increase the force by tightening the adjusting nuts more they won't come back over center to release.
~I don't know what manual you used that said to grease the clutch plates but it was probably talking about the toggles, dogs or bolts. The clutch plates should never be greased or it will slip for sure.
~The other thing to check is that the felt seal is in place & drain back holes in the pulley hub are open so no oil is getting on the clutch plates....
