On a JD M, the lift oil spills out of the breather when going up hill. Level appears to be correct, maybe even a little low now. Breather is under the seat, and oil level should be to pet-cock on back of lift, under the seat. Is this normal for Ms? Thanks, Joe in NY

Joe

I have had similar problems before with a 420. First check the oil that is coming out of the breather. If if is not clear but foamy, the system is getting air in it and foaming the oil at the pump. If that is the case, the most common place to start looking for air entering the system is the connections on the return line. If the oil coming out is clear and not foamy, I would say to disregard my theory initially.

Joe, I don't know the conditions under which you are loosing oil, but I have a 430 that I have been working very hard lately with a 6ft. landscaping box.I have recently rebuilt the lift and it works perfect, but under a hard pull with the box overloaded, it will squirt some oil on the inside of the right rear tire. I can hear the pressure release when it does it. I am guessing that the depth control is doing this, when it senses overload. Doesn't seem to hurt anything except I know I am loosing a small amount of oil each time. I have not taken time yet to try to find out where it is coming from. Has anyone else had this expierence? Thanks, Wayne.
