I know that JD-B powerblocks are rare. What is a reasonable price for a B-powerblock with pistons? And are B powerblock all interchangable, or are there different ones for different years?

There are three models of 5" bore Power blocks, two for the model "B" and one for the model "50" tractor. The 5-1 model P-Block was intended for 41 through 46 year model "B's". The 5-2 P-block was for 47 through 52 year model "B's" and the 5-3 was for the model "50" tractor. All three of these blocks share the same common piston and bore size and center to center dimension. All three of these blocks also share the same common casting, but are machined different. The rear flange bolt pattern on the model "50" (5-3 block) is different than both the two "B" blocks, "B" rear flange bolt patterns are the same. Water manifold patterns on the two "B" blocks are different. The 5-1 (early "B" P-block) and 5-3 "50 P-block are drilled and tapped on the bottom and rear flange side edge of the block for the frame to bolt to it, where the late "B" 5-2 block is not, as it did not have the frame bolted to the block. You can drill and tap the bottom and rear flange side edge of a 5-2 and make it work in a 5-1 application and custom build yourself the upper water pipe. I never tried to alter a 5-3 P-block to a "B" but with enough determination I imagine it could be done with some extra work. To tell you what to pay for one I can't. I guess you have to find one first and then look at its condition and determine what it is worth to you. Good Luck Dave W.
