This is going to sound pretty basic, but we haven't captured an owner's manual yet and I can't remember back forty years ago which oil we used since our JDs were such early models that we didn't even HAVE Power Trol. My Power Trol is a little low and I need to know which oil to use to top it up. Thanks,..... Dave

We ended up using 30W non-detergent. I could not find the 10W-30 Non-detergent or I would have used that instead. Our loader came to life and works fine now. This tractor has an add-on oil reservoir extension that was part of the loader kit since the loader has one huge single acting cylinder right in the middle over the front wheels. I have never seen a front end loader quite this crude. The loader was built somewhere in the Midwest and sold as a kit. Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry. We needed the front end loader to give us more boost to make our ladder reach the upper part of the grainery end wall. We are installing a brand new 100 AMP electrical service to it as we convert this fine building to a shop. Dave

Dave, almost anything from 30 weight to 10W30 to HyGuard can be used. The oil used depends on what temperature you are going to use it at [30 weight is a little heavy for use at 0°F] & what is in it now.
~If you are going to share equipment with a later tractor that uses HyGuard then it should probably be used in your "A" also. I use 30 weight in my summer use only tractors & 10W30 in the ones likely to get used in the winter.

Thank you for the quick response. I'm off to the big city to buy oil so I can use the loader. It's going to rain..... ..... here in SE Iowa. Dave
