Hello,

This winter I am going to overhaul the transmition on my 1946 A. I need to put high range shaft in it. Is it possible that I can put the 1 mile per hour 1st gears in this tractor in place of the 2 1/2 mph gears? I go to tractor pulls and alot of times the 1 mph gears would have won me 1st place because of lack of power. If so what year of tractor do I ask to get the gears out of?

Thank You!

Dave;

I just last month bought a 49 "A" with the high first gear. I bought it just to pull in farm stock. From what I have seen this fast first gear is far better than the slow one. I have a lack of power issue as well, but knew that would be a problem. I plan on rebuilding the motor and adding some HP. I feel if I get to 50 to 55 HP I will have a good set up. Momentume is a factor in pulling. This only my thought and I have been wrong in the past. GOOD LUCK and by all means go to the pulls with the intent of just having "FUN" if ya win great!
