I am looking at a 48 loader to buy it has brackets to fit a 4020 and 2940 will this fit my 3020?? Also will this loader handle 1000 Lb round bales ok?? it only has one cylinder on the bucket. The price is ok as long as I dont have to buy brackets for it. Can anyone tell me what to watch for on the 48 loader weak points or other problems. thanks for any info I checked all the arcives and did not find what I wanted.

Hi John
I recently bought a 4020 with a 48 loader on it. It works great, handles round bales like a dream, I don't know how I ever ran a custom hay baling business without one. One thing I have been told is to keep an eye on the bolts that mount the loader to the loader brackets. I was baling with the tractor and noticed the loader moving around and had to replace one of the bolts. I am wanting to build a quick hitch attachment for mine. I have had some input here that it would be a major problem, don't really see why, but of course I have not started one yet either. As for anything used you will want to look for worn places and welds and repairs on it and if it all looks ok I would go for it. One thing also that I have heard about on mounting a loader on a 3020 is too keep the side frame to engine bolts tight, I have learned on one of my posts here that they have a tendencey to get loose with a loader on them and if they do they can strip the mounting holes out in the block. Adding an extra frame to the axle has been mentioned as a possible fix to that problem. Just something too look at. I know there have to be hundreds of loaders mounted on 3020's and I was going to put one on mine till
I got the 4020 with one on it. There are more mounting bolts in the side frame on a 4020 than on a 3020. Hope this helps.

John,a JD 48 loader will handle 1000 lb. rd. bales.Brackets for 4020 and 2940 are not the same.4020 brkts. bolt to side frames and 2940 should have tubes to bolt under rear axles plus bolting to side frames.I think you can bolt either mtng. brkts. on 3020.You will probably have to shorten them with a torch because 3020 is shorter frame.I had to shorten brkts on 158 loader, holes lined up,but brkts on 48 and 158 are diff.Jim B

YES THE BRACKETS ARE THE SAME.I HAVE A 48 LOADER ON A 2520,YOU JUST USE DIFFERENT FRAME HOLES WHEN MOUNTING.
THE OWNERS MANUAL RATES LOADER AT 2000# LIFT LIMIT.
AS FOR WHAT TO LOOK FOR,LOOK FOR TWISTS,WELDS,LEAKS,AND SLOPPY FITTING PARTS.
