Well, who ever said that i should turn the braking axle around, THANK YOU!!!! that was the problem. And also, is a 3 light bar required for the back of the 8 foot deck?

No problem. It had me thinking for awhile. But I usually back up and put the brake controller on so the brakes will adjust. That way I know that all the brakes are working.

Yes a three light bar is required. Read my post down below about the things I think you should check for safety.

What is you GVWR? With only one braking axle the most you will be able to get by FEDERAL LAW is 7000#'s. State rules are different but uf you travel out of state you jump to FEDERAL LAW.

Joe,If your trailer is new it should be up to speed, if it is used it will fall under the old law for lights, tape and cluster lights. If it is home made call the Hwy Patrol or the nearest State Weigh Scales they will tell you what you need to know, a lot depends on the weight and leangth of the trailer. KJM in MO.

Truthfully you haven't told me what state you're in and I can only tell you what VA and Federal law is. Your state man should be able to tell you what to rate the trailer for. Probably, 7000# GVWR only. And that is until you get the second braking axle. Then you could get a maximum of 12000# GVWR with the appropriate rated tires. Mobile home tires don't pass around here.

Make sure you ran atleast a 12 ga. wire from the plug to the trailer brakes. 14 ga. is not sufficient when you have more than one axle brakes.

P.S. read my followup post to yours from yesterday down at the bottom of the page.

Joe I do beleive DOT reqiures that you have two red tail light, brake, and turn signals. They also require 3 marker lights in the center of the back of the trailer. I think they require a marker light on each corner (sides) red rear and amber front. They may require reflective tape on the sides as well (this law was pass some where in early 90s on new trailers)
