Just bought a '47 G and flywheel is loose and needs tightening. Already broke a good 1/2" drive universal trying to get it tight. I searched the discussion archives and ran across the name Shorty Dear several times but have gotten no response from emailing him. I know a lot of people make these things but I am not much of a welder. By the way, this is my first old tractor and I've gotten alot of good info from discussion forums on this site, Thanks to everyone who takes the time to help us newcomers out.

Tightning mat not be enough!I had a 52 G that moved a little and I never got it tight enough(always walked out).I made a wrench by heating and bending in three places and then welding a piece of rebar to it.You may consider threading the crank and putting a bolt on the outside, holding it up there. If the flywheel has been loose much than you may want to try this.Later,Jack(TN).

The best way would be to find the wrench.. or barrow one from someone.. Lots of people do like is posted below.. and make one.. do you have a pic to make one??? Like below.. its just an offset extension... I have used a flexhead ratchet to get them.. but its easier with the correct tools.. (I have broke a few Good flexhead's on the bolts too..) Good luck

I have a 3/4 inch extension that I use. I took a torch and made two bends so it has an offset. works great! Email me if you need a photo.

If you know someone who has the proper wrench borrow it and take a 3/4 drive extra long extention and heat and bend to match. I did this and then you can use different size sockets, because all g`s arent the same size nuts on flywheel. With the 3/4 drive socket you can tighten it much easier.

The reason you cannot get ahold of Shorty, is that he has passed away.

As for the wrench, you are looking for a B 353 R wrench, and they are common at places where the parts vendors go, like shows. A good one should run from $20-30 I suppose. Lots of estate farm auctions tend to have them also. It is a big, double ended box wrench, with the size fitting the flywheel on one end and the size for the wheel clamps on the other.

I know they are very common, I have three of them.

The B353R wrench won't do a lot of good on a G with out a D2064R wrench which is bent to get behind the flywheel. The b353R can be used to turn the D2064R. the 3/4" drive extention bent to fit works well.
