Hi, I'm looking for a backhoe to use around home farm. Have found a JD 510A that runs good and is not all beat up. Hour meter is working and has about 5100 hrs. Guy is asking $10,500. That seems a little high to me but I can't find a site that lists "blue book" prices for used construction equipment. How does this price sound, and does anyone know of a site that would have that info. As always, thanks for any and all advice/input. Jimj

you can try visiting the machinerytrader site...they list auction prices and retail dealer prices....leans more toward newer machines but you may find a few in there ....510's aren't too bad of a machine...a little difficult to run as a loader with the power shift and reverser ...also its size makes it a bit awkward...but it has a good backhoe ...They have that welland engine that wasn't used much in construction equipment...they have a balancer assembly that can be trouble sometimes ....And the power shift transmission is quite pricey to repair. A better choice might be a 410 or a 310A ...They are more common and are a little more user friendly....Is that RI after the name meaning Rhode Island??? Massachusetts here ...

I don't remember for sure but didn't the 510 use a Waterloo 4-276 engine. One thing I do know for sure it wasn't a Welland engine. Deere never made engines in Welland.
