I have read several posts from you that states that if a JD 2440 has hyd.hi/lo it adds $2000 to clutch job.I worked for a Deere dealer as a service manager when 2440's were new and I don't remember any added cost to split granted I can't remember as well as I did 20 yrs ago.I am not trying to dispute you just can't think of why the hi/lo option if working would raise clutch repair costs. Thanks,Jim B

That bit of information was passed on to me from the mechanic at the Deere dealership I use. He has been at the same place for 34 years, and always shoots straight. He didn't tell me the specifics, but when I bought my 2440 last summer, the first words out of his mouth were, "Does it have Hi-Low"? I told him no, and he went on to explain that it would cost as much as another $2000 to do any major work, such as splitting it for a clutch. This dealer, and the mechanic are the best I've ever run across. They WILL NOT put anything back together with "suspect parts". If it needs repair, or replacing, they'll do it. If you want a quick patch-job, take it somewhere else. All I'm going on, is what he told me. Never had a Hi-Low 2440 to split, so I've never paid that bill. John
