My 1010 gas RU was operating fine until it just refused to start. Naturally in the middle of a field hitched up to a full trailer - &$^#%$!!!

The battery is fine, and the gen light/gauges all bright and OK. When I turn the ignition key to the start position, the gen light fades and the gauges "dip" so it looks like a short? The starter doesn't even attempt to crank just nada.

What do I check first to at least get the old girl out of the field so don't have to tow my Deere out of the field with my Lo Boy Cub!!

Thanks for the help, pretty desperate...

I agree with your theory on the short. Unless you have recently rewired your tractor, the wire jackets get pretty brittle. Check around for the obvious bare wires. Plus I guess it is possible that your igntion switch could be the problem. But also check the battery, like Loren said. Sometimes the easiest things cause the biggest problems.

I know you said your battery is okay, but the symptoms, (lights dimming, etc.) sure sound like battery to me. I would try a jump first. I suppose you have checked the terminal connections to the battery and know that they are clean? And you know you have a good ground? If jumping doesn't work then my second guess would be a starter problem.

Doesn't seem like there are many 1010RU around. Good to hear somebody else has one.
