I just bought a model 60. It appears that the teeth are stripped away on the inside part of the flywheel where the starter gear usually engages. Can the flywheel be repositioned or can the wheel be repaired or are replacements available? Any help would be appreciated.

I just worked on a friend's 530 with same problem. He was insistent on getting a new ring gear till he got a price $200+. I kept assuring him, had taken care of dozens of these. Anyway, I removed gear, repositioned and ran new bevel on face. The starter has plenty of contact area so no problem. He was really happy with job.

Jim, you have a few options;
~You can buy a new ring gear, remove the flywheel & install that [not cheap]..
~You can remove the flywheel & heat your existing ring gear, then tap it off, then reposition it so the worn teeth are in a different position, then re-heat it & drive it back on. [in a lot of cases that will stop the grinding as the 2-cylinder Deere's flywheel usually only stop in a couple of places].
~Or remove the flywheel, heat & remove the ring gear, flip it over, re-heat & re-install the ring gear, then use a grinder to put a chamfer on the teeth to match the original..[this is the best way, [short of installing a new ring gear] & the way I usually do it]
