Just need some advice, I have a 40 A that is an all fuel tractor. This tractor requires a DLTX 52 or 53 Carb, It has been changed to a DLTX71 by the previous owner. I have done the restoration on this tractor myself and was told this carb was a rebuild, problem is the tractor ran great, just after restoration and after about 10 hours of run time, loaded and cruising time. I have lost all adjustment, idle and load on the carb, she burns extremly rich, and is low on power. The gas tank has been boiled out and epoxy lined and all fuel lines were changed to stainless steel. All of this before i ever started her up. The carb has also started leaking very badly. Do you think this was a bad rebuild? this carb was still in the box and was painted black when I bought the tractor. I also use high octane gas in her with lead additive.I would like to get it running right so that I can pull her in some antique pulls, But also use her to turn some soil in our hunting habitat program. I would like to know if it would pull a 2-16 plow in semi hard and slightly rocky soil. Thanks in advance Ron

Ron, as John said, check the float setting & for being fuel logged. When in there check for something caught in the needle & seat also.
~If that is ok then you should check the bowl vent for being plugged, [especially the baffles in the top of the float bowl].
~Make sure the choke is opening fully [actually look at it [if the linkage is malfunctioning it will look open from the outside but the plate is not necessarily be open on the inside].
~If the above is ok, then re-set the needles to 1 from seated on the load & 2 from seated on the idle & if it still acts up after a hot engine adjustment go through the carb for plugged passages & missing parts.
~Make sure the air cleaner isn't plugged or partially plugged & it is getting plenty of air.
~Unless you have raised the compression, the high octane gas isn't needed & will actually hurt. The same with the lead additive, use a little when actually working it hard but very little to none when just playing.
~Now that you have used lead a lead additive you might want to try new spark plugs just to eliminate partially fouled plugs as a cause of your problem..

I could be off, but it sounds as if the float may have sank (filled with fuel) and it is flooding. You could always pull the bowl and check the float. Should be light as a feather, not heavy and sloshing. I had the same problem. Sent a DLTX10 off to be redone. Ran perfect out of the box for about 3 weeks, then all the fuel ran out on the floor of the shop. Float filled with gas. Would be an easy check.
