Was recently given a 2010 loader/backhoe that wasn't run in 9 years. I added a battery and a blast of ether it cranked! It had awful black smoke but it smoothed out. Had to cut a small tree from the outriggers to get it out. Only problem I HEAR is, when I drive forward there is a loud clank, not all the time. It sounds like it ias comming from the rear or brakes. the brakes does not work either. When I turn sharp it clanks more often and there is a jerking type motion.
Need advice. The loader and backhoe works pefect, just the traveling!

does it clank when you turn both ways or only one? How about the brakes, does is clank when the left, right or both brakes are applied.

I'm suspecting two different problems, brakes and differential, most likely.

I haven't tried applying brakes and listening to the noise, but it seems to clank more when you make eith a left or right hand turn. I have let the outriggers down and raised the rear tires of the ground. When I put the tractor in gear and run itand apply brakes I don't hear no clanking. Hop this will help you determine my problem. If it is the diff., is it fixable and what can I expect the cost to be. Someone had removed I guess a inspection plate, exposing a gear on the right rear axle.
