I have a 49 B w 5-2 power block. I've had it for a few years and restored it (minus engine rebuild). Engine ran good but smoked a little till hot, then cleared up. Last summer it began to smoke alot so I tore it down. I had the block honed, new rings, had the head re-done, and carb rebuilt in hopes to have it real sweet. Got it running today. It fired right up but as it warmed it started to smoke again. I have no clue what is causing it. The smoke is blue as if oil burn. Can anyone think of any other reason that it might be smoking??? I must be missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am discouraged..

Jim, if you can't find anything else try disconnecting the vent pipe & see if a failed vent pump is causing oil to end up in the intake..

Interesting thought Clooney...I will try that tomorrow. I tried to check compression without the appropriate adapter, (rigged it with some leakage) but have at least 100psi in both cyl.

Jim

If I just started it after rering, I would run it until it had a chance to get to operating temp and then run it some more. There is a lot of oil in excess in the ring lands etc, from the assembly process. Personally, I wouldn't give up on it until I worked up to the point of working it (like a dog) as they say. Hope my cheap advice leads to a similar cheap remedy.
